Concept to UI

Problem
A doctrinal studies group, whose members are skilled technologists, did not have a single, searchable, customizable digital tool from which to study and compare doctrines and confessions. The group discussed building an app to meet this need. I was asked to design the app based on pre-determined functional specifications.

My Role
I served as a User Experience consultant, providing user experience research and design services to the Doctrinal Studies group.

UX Disciplines: Content Strategy, Facilitation, Information Architecture, Information Design,  Interaction Design, Interface Design, User Research, Visual Design, Writing for UX.
Deliverables: Facilitation, User Research, Wireframes, Prototypes.

Approach

The project manager and I met to establish a shared understanding of the problem. I used a concept map to understand the problem space and narrow the scope. He was keen on seeing interfaces, so I sketched a few mobile and desktop screens based on the functional specs and concept map.

To confirm my role, project scope, expectations, and timeline, I wrote a project charter document for the project manager to share with with his team.

I crafted wireframes for review, then higher fidelity wireframes for project manager and development team review.

Final concepts delivered to development. It was important to the development team that settings were available in a hamburger menu. The menu was a result of design negotiations and is untested with users.

 Results
A responsive design crafted in Sketch was selected for implementation.  The design met all user goals and business goals.
